 Dear Dick,

You asked me for my comments about last week's reunion. Here  they are. This is probably much more than you wanted to have. I suggest  that you edit these and then put them on your website.

I was pleased with the reunion overall. 56 alums attended the  function, as well as 4 actives. Everyone seemed happy to see each
other. In fact so much conversation went on that it was hard to get people to sit down for the  meals. I have had numerous compliments about how everyone enjoyed the  reunion.

One of my roommates back in the 1940s said that it was great even  though not many from his era were present. Several mentioned to me that  they were impressed with the caliber of the members of the active chapter and how  good that the house looked. They various events went well as far as I  was concerned.  It was too bad that the weather was so cold for the golfers, although  18 played. I think that those who went on the bus tour enjoyed it,  thanks to Nick Klitzing and my wife. They provided the commentary, pointing out various buildings.

I think that all who attended the Golden Legion Award Ceremony were impressed by it. Everyone should be encouraged to attend it in the future. As we  did, a bus is needed because of the lack of parking on the campus.

What  about the details of putting the reunion together? The National Office is very good about getting names and addresses of lists of classes and the names  of those eligible for their Golden Legion Certificate. Scott Reeser, the treasurer of the Phi  Chapter House Association, was a great help in making lists of  attendees and collecting money and keeping me informed of these matters. Woody Sudbrink sent $1700.00 to  help defray costs of the reunion. I estimate that I spent about 2/3ds  of that for such things as the bus, golf prizes and mailings.

The question for everyone is, who will be the chairman of the reunion in 5 years????  I'll help, if I'm around but I will not head the  committee.  I have lists of all the from 1940 to 1958 and other information to give to the leader. They  will need to be updated of course. The national office will help with  that and provide the names of the members of the classes from 1959 to 1963.

Questions to be answered for the next reunion:
#1. Dates.  What graduation/pledge years to include.
#2. Location -  including hotels.
#3. Football weekend or not. Rooms could be a problem.
#4. Hire a photographer or not. We didn't and are depending on pictures from attendees. Hopefully you will get some for your website.  We do want some publicity in the "Scroll". You and I need to work on that after you  get some pictures.
#5. It would be good to have a leader from each or the classes to contact their classmates encouraging them to attend the  reunion.
#6. Is a campus bus tour wanted?
#7. Schedule the Golden Legion Awards Ceremony.
#8. Spend time with the active chapter to coordinate activities  with them. Nick Klitzing and Chapin Rose were valuable help for me.
#9. Make name tags, see that there is a welcome banner, and have actives at the hotel to greet people when they arrive.
#10. When do you send out mailings, and how many? We sent  out 3, but I called many who hadn't signed up.
#11. Reserve rooms way ahead of time. You can cancel them if  you have too many.
#12. Choose menus and location of them.

YITB,
Dick Foley
