Introduction:  For those of you who are this list for the first time - Wham Hill Cemetery has been neglected for the past several years, resulting in overgrowth of a variety of weeds and vines.  Don Nesmith (a cousin to most of us) as been very helpful in mowing a path to WHC, and recently has sprayed it with the intention of killing back the overgrowth.  Don used equipment and materials owned by Charlie Charlton who lives on Foxville Road across from  the opening of the lane leading back  to WHC.  Many thanks to Don and  Charlie from all of us!  After the weeds die back, it will then be determined what should be done next.

Jennifer Wham Price has taken the lead in determining ownership. Please see attached information from Larimer.

The ownership of the cemetery and a thirty foot lane leading to WHC  is "Wham Cemetery Association".  Edith Perdue,  now deceased, was mentioned as being the Secretary-Treasurer of the association according to a 1971 article in the Salem Times Commoner.  I have contacted the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency in Springfield and the Illinois Office of the Comptroller, Cemetery Care and  Burial  Trust  Department, in Chicago, and their records indicate "Wham Cemetery" as being "registered" and "exempt" (from having to pay taxes or file annual registration forms).  Their records do not contain any contacts for "Wham  Cemetery  Association".

With the  number of lawyers on this mailing list,  we should get good advice as to what steps are necessary to resurrect a viable "Wham Cemetery Association".  Jennifer is the lead.

More information will follow.

If you wish to be removed from the list, please let me know.

If you know anyone not on the list who might be interested in receiving this information, forward this and let me know the address, and  I will add them to the list.

Hello Everyone,

Some of you may have received more than you wanted (and more than I intended to send) yesterday.  It appears that I hit the "send" button once too often.  I apologize!

In order to expedite the exchange of information and not overload your email in-box, the information will now be posted on the Wham Hill/ Haines Township  web site.  You can link to it on the links above or below.  This will  be a  works in progress, and as more information is available it will be posted.  So please check back often.  Please give me feed-back and any additional information and advice you have.  If you encounter any difficulty with the web site please advise.

If you know anyone not on the list who might be interested in receiving this information, forward this and let me know the address, and  I will add them to the list.

I will be sending this same information to Harold Boyles by regular mail.  Harold has been of great help!  If  any of you see him, please say hello and pass this information on.  Thanks.

Usual disclaimer:  If you wish to be removed from the list, please let me know.
